Cosmos St Lucia doesn’t just have the best view in the Caribbean.  Your journey to the magical place where mountain, sea and sky meet will be uplifted by the warm welcome of our dedicated and hardworking team, led by our celebrated house manager, Shermika.

If you’ve stayed at Cosmos St Lucia you know how warm and welcoming Shermika is, and then some. She serves up delicious home cooked meals, makes sure you have everything you need, and is a trusted concierge for guests seeking recommendations or needing help with booking local activities. She’s a busy lady, managing a small, committed team. Yet her megawatt smile and calm demeanour are for real.

Our House Manager Shermika

To celebrate Shermika, we’re sharing 10 things about her, so you can get to know her a bit better…

1. I’m an island girl through and through. I grew up in Augier, Vieux-Fort, at the southern tip of St Lucia and started cooking when I took ownership of a small restaurant in Laborie.
2. My favourite St Lucian dish to cook is Bouillon. I can almost taste the flavour by saying the name! I use lots of different herbs and vegetables, it’s so tasty. It’s part of the inspiration for the Fish Gumbo on the Cosmos Private Dining menu. And I’m particularly proud of my Carrot Coconut Cake – it’s light, moist and goes very fast – a good sign.
3. I live at Cosmos St Lucia in my own private “tree house” with my three children. I really like being close to our guests so they can relax knowing I’m nearby if they need anything. And of course it’s a beautiful spot to raise my family.
4. I come from a very big family. My great great grandmother was from India, she came to St Lucia as an indentured servant to work in the rice fields. Her daughter –  my great grandmother – went on to have 18 children! A busy, bustling family life is what I know, and it turns out to be good training for my work.
5. I’ve always worked in hospitality; I like the mix of organisation and being sociable. And it feels really good when I anticipate something for a guest that makes them feel happy and cared for.
6. My favourite moments at Cosmos St Lucia have to be the Weddings. We hold small, intimate weddings here, so helping make them happen and witnessing truly special moments between a couple – it’s just magical. I never tire of it.
7. When I get the chance I love to get out into nature. I love the ocean, so walking on a beach or cliff makes me happy. No surprises my favourite emojis are the dolphin, butterfly and flowers.
8. Spending time with my kids is really important to me. On my days off I take the kids to the beach and we kick back and relax together as a family.
9. My secret place? I walk up to the end of the road past Cosmos St Lucia, to the very top of the hillside and look out over Soufriere. It’s a great view with Pitons rising behind the town.
10. A local secret? Soufriere is the second deepest harbour in the Caribbean. It’s so deep that there’s enough food at the bottom to stop the sharks from coming to the surface. Thankfully!

The Cosmos Family

Our other team members include our housekeepers, sisters Merkiver and Priscillia as well as our maintenance manager Darius.  All three make the trip down from the village of Fond St Jacques, above Soufriere on the edge of the rainforest, to help bring your Cosmos experience to life.

Finally, for larger dinners and celebrations, Shermika is supported by a number of guest chefs who work their magic in the Cosmos kitchen.  Many guests have reported that they ate better at Cosmos than in some of the finest restaurants on the island. We are lucky to have this local culinary talent!
